Who we are?
A note from our founder
As with many small businesses these days, my journey started out somewhere entirely different to where I am now.
Hello, I’m Victoria, your friendly neighbourhood creative from Darlington. I love creativity in all its forms; soap making, aromatherapy, and a glass of G&T at the end of it all. And I create all kinds of signs to help you personalise your space and make a statement!
It’s a passion I never thought would take off the way it did, but that I couldn’t be more happy about. When I first created The Little Hippo, I had no idea what to expect. I even made my boyfriend buy something, so I had at least one customer. Who would’ve thought I’d end up meeting so many lovely people, and having so many return customers? Certainly not me!
My Origin story
Once upon a time, I worked for the NHS as an occupational therapist. Things happened, one of them being having my 3 lovely boys, and I suddenly found myself working as a wedding photographer all over the country. All because I wanted some nice pictures of my kids - crazy right?!But what do you know, being a wedding photographer was really bloody exhausting, and not nearly as stable as I wanted it to be. And then lockdown happened and, you guessed it, I ended up finally starting the kind of business I’ve always wanted. Thus, The Little Hippo was born!

Where we are now
Mostly, the answer to that is tinkering in the workshop! There’s little we love more than creating new designs - both for the shop, and our own 4 walls!
You, our lovely customers, remain one of our biggest inspirations. One of our favourite things, hands down, is seeing all the amazing pictures you so kindly send to us of all your wall decorations and door toppers!
But despite all the growth and the wild ride it has been, there’s one thing that’s never changed. We love what we do, and all our products are created with passion and care. We're proud of each and every creation, and seeing them on other people’s walls/doors/etc. only adds to that feeling.
